Extraordinary 20th Century French Empire style console table.

This table is after a design by Jacob-Desmalter. The rectangular specimen top has a beautiful chequered design of hardstones and rare marbles in a variety of colours.

The top is supported over an elaborate carved giltwood frame. Four female caryatids support a frieze of finely carved flowing c-scrolls and delicate leaves, with lovely gilt accents throughout. The whole rests on a plinth base with a faux marble panel, which has been replaced and repainted. 

François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter was one of the most significant French Empire furniture makers. He ran a prosperous workshop in Paris with extensive royal clients. 

This table has mesmerising details and a wonderful decorative presence. A brilliant interior piece.
