1960s Chrome Sputnik Light by Gaetano Sciolari
Striking and iconic 'Sputnik' pendant light, by Gaetano Sciolari. 1960s.
This chandelier consists of six arms, with each bulb capped with chrome plating so give the appearance of balls supported by a framework of curved rods.
Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) was an Italian designer, and in his time the biggest importer of lights to the United States. He was the founder and first president of the Italian association of lighting equipement manufacturers, which is still active today.
Sciolari's work mixed the avant-garde with geometric forms, and he mostly used chrome, glass and brass for his designs.
This is a fabulous statement piece of Mid Century design, which is sure to draw attention in any setting.
This piece includes LED E14 mirror bulbs, and has been rewired and tested.
