Pair of English Country House Mahogany Floor Lamps
Truly wonderful pair of English Country House mahogany floor lamps.
These lamps were made by reusing a period pair of Georgian mahogany bed posts, hence why the barley twist runs in opposite directions on each.
This pair demonstrates sturdy yet elegant Georgian craftsmanship, which was enthusiastically revived in the 20th Century in the form of English Country House style.
The top section of each features reeded carving, giving way to the barley twist throughout the majority of the column, culminating in a turned and decoratively carved bottom section.
The lamps are supported by tripod bases, with cabriole legs ending in crisply carved ball and claw feet.
This is truly timeless English furniture style. The lamps were probably made by one of the great antiques dealing companies of the early 20th Century, which frequently featured in Country Life magazines of the period.
