French Gilt Console Table with Marble Top
Decorative French giltwood console table in the neoclassical manner with original gilding.
Having its original, pretty 'D' shaped Breche d'Alep marble top above a short fluted frieze with foliate paterae. Raised on turned fluted legs, with traditional acanthus leaf and bead carvings, joined by curved stretchers with a super, large classical urn at the centre with an acorn finial.
Stamped in two places with Paris makers stamp 'Charles Bernel Paris 1913' and with a fleur de lys in a shield. Charles Bernel was a renowned French ébÉniste (cabinet maker) in the late 19th century.
Bernel was one of a few highly skilled cabinetmakers producing furniture in the manner of earlier styles.
