Large 19th Century English Regency Convex Mirror
An Exceptionally Large Scale English Regency Convex Giltwood Mirror.
With its simple outline, but surprisingly detailed decoration, this superb mirror is circular in outline and consists of a variety of mouldings, including one of the celebrated "cannon ball" mouldings reputed to have been introduced after the death of Lord Nelson at Trafalgar in 1805, surrounding an ebonised slip and a single convex mirror plate.
At nearly a metre wide, this is a very large mirror and was clearly produced for a very grand interior. The outer edge moulding of the frame has imitation rope work/binding details at regular intervals.
