Large 19th Century French Ash Bookcase
An Impressive early 19th Century French ash bookcase.
Of late Empire style, this grand French bookcase is primarily veneered in ash. The top section utilises curly ash veneer with striking vertical grain framing the glazed doors whereas the drawer and cupboard fronts on the lower section of the piece employ bookmatched veneers, creating a contrasting but complementary look.
The bookcase has eight drawers, two closed fronted cupboards, with shelves, and the four larger cupboard sections behind the glazed doors above. The cornice and apron have contrasting mahogany. There are also some fine ormolu mounts of architectural inspiration. The mounts take the form of the bases and capitals of classical columns.
The bookcase has a series of pull out slides above the drawers and cupboards which is an unusual feature. (This breaks down into many pieces for easy installation).
