Large Pair of Early 19th Century Italian Painted Window Seats
A Large Pair of Early 19th Century Italian Painted Window Seats of X Frame or Curule Form and Good Size.
These window seats are of Italian form. During the regency period seats of this type, made either as window seats or simply as stools, became very popular in England. They have curving saddle seats of generous width and depth. The fames are painted with a cream and gilt colour scheme. The top rails are concave and join the two sides of the frames that have carved and gilded lions heads and paw feet.
At the centre where the curving legs meet the seat frame there are additional carved and gilded leaf form decorations.
