Large Scale Pair of Regency Library Armchairs
A handsome and large scale pair of Regency simulated rosewood library armchairs.
Rosewood was the exotic timber of choice during the Regency, due to its boldly striped figuring and rich patina.
The wood has been excellently simulated in this pair of chairs, a practice which became popular in the mid 18th Century.
Upholstery of the sort seen on these chairs became very popular in the Regency period, as cloth became much more readily available.
The use of turning was prevalent in the early Nineteenth Century and the Regency period.
Turning is used extensively on this pair of fine quality armchairs, including the supports for the armrest terminals, the spindle turned uprights supporting the armrests, the front legs and the backs.
