Late 18th Century French Inlaid Walnut Commode
Fine Late 18th Century French inlaid walnut commode.
Of high Louis XVI neoclassical form, this commode features a versatile combination of three small upper drawers, and one concealed secret drawer behind them, over two larger drawers below. The two sections are separated by molding that runs around the front of the piece.
The main veneer is walnut but each of the drawer fronts is banded with inlaid panels of diamonds, the same design is utilised on the top, and the sides feature ebonised areas and inlaid stringing.
The rounded everted corners to the front of the piece above fluted pilasters terminate in toupee feet with ormolu toe mounts.
