18th Century English Oak Dresser
Fine 18th Century English Oak Dresser of Desirable Small Size and Excellent Colour and Patination.
This lovely dresser employs a variety of interesting mouldings and details that make it very unusual and a sophisticated example of its kind. Beginning from the top, the cornice is moulded and waisted.
The original wrought iron hanging rings for cups are still in place. An arrangement of three shelves, all with moulded edges, stands upon the base which has three drawers and an under tier, giving additional storage space, the two parts of the base linked by well-turned column supports. The top of the base also has unusual everted corner pieces which extend beyond the rest of that section and are then rounded off at the ends, a very interesting detail and a sign of the care taken when constructing this dresser.
The whole piece rests on simple block feet. This piece is particularly desirable because of its small size, its originality and the superb colour and patination that the piece has acquired with age and use which is utterly untouched and very attractive.
