- Late 19th Century Hadji Jalili Tabriz CarpetThe city of Tabriz in Northwest Persia has long been known as a centre for Persian arts, culture, and literature, but especially for the quality of its carpets, with a tradition dating back as early as the 14th Century. Thanks to its location, incorporating influences from nearby Azerbaijan and Turkey, its weavings are among the most diverse of any city in Persia, and antique Tabriz carpets are especially distinguished by their impressive artistry and close adherence to the traditions of Classical Persian rug weaving design. This example woven circa 1890, exemplifies the refined artistry of the renowned master weaver Hadji Jalili, whose workshop was celebrated for its creative designs and exceptional craftsmanship – they can often be seen in historic and stately homes throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. Being an earlier piece, this carpet boats a high-grade weave and hand-spun wool, with a well-balanced all-over drawing on an ivory ground, accented with gracefully aged vegetable-dyed colours, including grey, olive green, caramel, and sky blue accents – all framed by eight creative borders, well preserved on all sides. An open, restrained composition, which lends the work a feeling of harmony and balance, well suited to a modern interior. Retained in very good condition for everyday use, its dyed have taken on a fine patina with age. An understated carpet, which would feel at home in a wide variety of settings.£12,600.00In stock

- Large 1930s Kashan CarpetA refined example of Persian workshop weaving from the early 20th century. Kashan, a city with a storied history in carpet-making dating back to the Safavid era, experienced a revival in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, producing high-quality rugs that combined traditional motifs with contemporary sensibilities. This particular piece, bearing the signature of a master weaver, exemplifies the craftsmanship and artistry characteristic of this period. The carpet features a restrained all-over design, with delicate floral motifs rendered in a palette of soft duck egg blues, elephant greys and chestnut, over a rare ivory field. The subtle gradations of color and the uniformity between the central field and the border create a balanced and elegant composition. The use of gracefully aged vegetable dyes adds depth and character, lending the piece a timeless appeal that complements both traditional and modern interiors. In very good condition for its age, the carpet retains its original borders and exhibits minimal signs of wear, making it suitable for everyday use. - 19th Century Laver Kirman Carpet19th Century Laver Kirman carpets are among the most highly prized, and most unique, of all Persian workshop pieces. The workshops of Kirman, well known for the high quality of their weavings, won the royal patronage of the Safavid court in the 17th Century, and became some of the earliest Oriental carpets to make their way into the Western market. Later on, its weavers, in turn, took a certain influence from European textile traditions, incorporating a distinct palette, inspired by the colours of Classical French carpets, as can be seen in this example, with its soft champagne, cornflower blue, maroon, and sage green tone, all in gracefully aged natural vegetable dyes. This fine c. 1870 example features a rare all-over design, rather than the conventional central medallion layout, lending a real feeling of openness and balance to the composition, which employs delicate design motifs inspired by earlier Classical era works of the 17th Century. The drawing, all in gracefully aged vegetable dyes, includes muted tones of burgundy, indigo, cornflower blue and tan, over a soft ivory ground and framed by a wide border – a restrained colour scheme, which serves to compliment the refined elegance of the carpet’s design. Retained in good practical condition for everyday use, although, being an early piece, this carpet does have areas of low pile, and has had some age-related restoration work, finished to a high standard. Its colours have taken on a charming patina over the years. An exceptional piece, over 150 years old, which would add character and grace to any setting.£7,800.00In stock
