Large Contemporary Ziegler Sultanabad Carpet
Ziegler Sultanabad carpets such as this example were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century, designed to suit European decorative tastes.
Their unique grand scale drawing, quiet formality and understated colours have made them sought-after pieces in stylish homes across the UK and Europe. This example is a contemporary reimagining of these earlier Zeigler Sultanabad carpets, finely woven in lustrous wool and with natural vegetable-dyed colours.
The muted ivory colour field harmonises well with the colours in the drawing, which employs a spacious, balanced composition, framed by a decorative border.
