Late 19th Century Aubusson
An elegant classic 19th Century French Aubusson with a balanced drawing and delicate colour combination.
Aubusson carpets were handwoven in the villages of Aubusson and Felletin, in central France.
Workshops were established in 1743 to manufacture pile carpets primarily for the nobility and the royal residences.
Soon after the production of carpets began at Aubusson, the pileless tapestry technique became widespread and the word Aubusson became synonymous with a flat-woven French carpet.
In very good practical condition and has recently been cleaned and backed.
This Aubusson will add great character to a tasteful setting.
