Northern European Painted Box
Beautifully painted box in its original condition, from Northern Europe.
Of simple construction, this box retains its original brass handles to the sides and lock and key.
Featuring diamond-shaped painted panels, with extensive floral decoration. The unadorned interior shows the original grain and aged patina of the wood.
European boxes decorated in this manner were sometimes dowry chests, which would be filled with objects for setting up a household and sent with the bride to her husband's home.
Such chests would have contained things like blankets and linens, and this box would happily serve a similar purpose in today's home.
This is a very pretty, unique box that will bring great character to any interior.
