Mid-17th Century English oak settle, dated 1647.
This is a real piece of history and a very interesting piece of furniture. The date on the carved central panel is 1647. This is the year that Cromwell arrested King Charles II, the end of the monarchy and the start of 11 years of Puritan rule. Fun was outlawed, the theatres closed, bear baiting prohibited.
