Louis XIV era Lille Verdure Tapestry
A very impressive and rare Atelier Lille Verdure Tapestry, From the reign of Louis XIV, Sometimes called the Sun King, the reign of Louis XIV is often referred to as La Grande Siècle (the great century).
The renowned Atelier Lille was at the pinnacle of Tapestry production in this era, and under the direction of Guillaume Werners from 1701 - 1758 whose quality of weaving is comparable to the most beautiful Goblins. This tapestry depicts a languid river with generously planted riverbanks teeming with exotic plants and brightly coloured birds.
The richness and depth of the colour is in remarkable condition, with no restoration, backed with preshrunk Belgium linen.
A truly exceptional piece.
