Large Format Framed Photograph by Tobias Harvey
Lorfords approved

Tobias Harvey is a British Art Photographer based in the county of Essex.

Working with large format field cameras Tobias’s projects range from the autobiographical to themes of land identity, myth and folk consciousness. This image is from his take on the environment of his upbringing in rural Essex. The visual themes are the Agricultural industries and the Estuary that dominates this area, the images are imbued with his own approximation of ‘place’ and combining this with the changing role of the rural geography and its relationship to the peoples and industries of the past.

This picture was realised at the site of The Battle of Maldon where derides the famous Anglo-Saxon poem that shares its name . It celebrates the stillness of the Marsh as though it were caught between tides in a place infinite and timeless. Only disturbed the rotting boat and engine, like the sunken ferryman of the underworld.
