Mid 20th Century Swedish Design Flatweave Carpet
Flatweave carpets – known as röllakan – have been woven in Sweden since the 17th Century or earlier, but experienced a particular revival in the mid-20th Century, incorporating elements of both mid-century modern and folk design.
These pieces are widely sought after by collectors and designers today, known for their elegant simplicity and charm. This finely handwoven contemporary flatweave carpet, inspired by mid-century modern Swedish pieces, represents a wonderful example of its type, with fresh vegetable dyed colours, including soft olive and sage green square forms repeated across the field – the subtle variation in tone adds a great sense of depth and personality to its otherwise stripped-back, minimalist drawing.
The design is framed by a wide ivory and duck egg blue border – a warm, harmonious palette.
A stylish carpet in an unusually large format, adds character to any setting.
