1960s Fashion and Beauty Adverts

  • H: 45 cm (17 3/4")
  • W: 21 cm (8 1/4")
  • D: 0.5 cm (0 3/16")

Mixed pair of 1960s fashion adverts.

The first, in black-and-white, was issued by Bradleys department store, London circa 1956.

Bradleys was the number one destination for furs during the late 19th and early 20th Century, as is the focus of this advert.

By the 1920s, the store was so successful they had their own in-house designers and tailoring departments who sold to stores and private customers across London and Paris.

The second coloured advert is for Bourjois Perfume, Paris circa 1958. Bourjois perfumes and cosmetics was conceived in Paris in the 1890s by Alexandre Napeleon Bourjois.

Over the course of their existence, Bourjois introduced 124 different fragrances. They moved away from traditional floral scents with the concept that one's scent should reflect one's personality.

'Evening in Paris', advertised here, was one of their most successful lines. It was discontinued in the late 60s but revived again by Chanel in the early 90s.

These adverts are mounted and not framed. Their slim form is perfect for bringing a decorative accent to a smaller corner, whilst their themes are great for a bedroom or boudoir setting.
