Pair of 18th Century French Fauteuils
SKU
CH759815
A pair of quality 18th Century French fauteuils in original paint.
Fauteils emerged in France during the 18th Century and dramatically changed the concept of seating. Louis XIV had set a very strict court etiquette, whereby only a chosen few were allowed to sit down.
Louis Philippe II had a very different approach and as social mobility grew, fauteils were introduced as a comfortable chair that could be easily moved and provided seating for intellectuals and gentlemen.
These chairs have the trademark exposed wooden frame and are ready for re-upholstery in a fabric of your choice.
