Superb pair of late 19th Century French fauteuils.
Fauteuils emerged in France during the early 19th Century and dramatically changed the concept of seating. Louis XIV had set a very strict court etiquette, whereby only a chosen few were allowed to sit down.
Louis Philippe II had a very different approach and as social mobility grew, fauteuils were introduced as comfortable chairs that could be easily moved and provided seating for intellectuals and gentlemen.
These chairs confirm historical facts because of their gorgeous design and comfortability.
They have been re-upholstered with the most fantastic Ralph Lauren Home fabric which is called "Caledonia Leopard Linen" which brings the whole together wonderfully.
Both terminate with cabriole legs that are beautifully carved.
Their classic design and painted exterior have been mixed with contemporary linen to create a superior aesthetic that will suit classic and modern interiors alike!
