Pair of 19th Century Biedermeier Decanters
Splendid pair of early Victorian Biedermeier decanters. Circa 1840-60, Bohemia.
Of vivid ruby colour, these cylinder shaped decanters have a triple ring neck and fruiting vine etched decoration.
If filed with port or red wine, these beautiful decanters work as a surprise, only revealing their hand etched pattern as the decanter is depleted.
With original hexagonal cut stoppers.
The Biedermeier style was a transition between neoclassicism and romanticism, and the name comes from the caricature 'Papa Biedermeier' who was a comic symbol of middle class comfort.
This style popularised private lives, hobbies and the soirée. Visually, it had an emphasis on lightness and individuality.
This fantastic pair are perfect for any soirée!
