Pair of Albertus Seba coloured serpent engravings (double folio).

A pair of engravings with hand colouring from Albertus Seba’s (blog article here) very rare publication Locupletissimi Rerum Naturalium Thesauri Accurata Descriptio et Iconibus Artificiosissimis Expressio per Universal Physices Historiam. Written in Latin the publication’s title roughly translates to: A Careful Description & Exceedingly Artistic Expression in Pictures of the Exceedingly Rich Treasury of Nature Throughout the Entire History of Natural Science.

These engravings date between 1734 and 1765 and are double folio size and were coloured by hand.

Presented in wooden Italian mouldings, these frames were bespoke and hand-crafted to conservation standards.
