A stunning pair of large early 18th Century pine overdoors from Weald Hall Essex.
Beautifully and boldly carved, each with a moulded pediment over scrolled capitals, with formal leaf swags of laurel leaves and berries united by a tied ribbon. The whole dry scraped back to reveal many layers of beautiful 18th Century paint.
English, Circa 1740.
Provenance: Purchased at R C Knight & Sons, Norwich, 'Weald Hall, Brentwood, Essex, Sale of the Valuable Fixtures and Fittings', 1950, lot 100, thence by descent.
