Pair of Large Chinese Glazed Buddhist Jars with Covers
SKU
DA1840465
Pair of large Chinese terracotta Buddhist 'offering jars', with applied medallions.
All covered in a vibrant clear green glaze.
These large and impressive pottery jars were possibly made around the 13/14th Century during the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279) or the Yuan Dynasty (AD1279-1368).
Until recent years, this type of jar was almost unknown to the West, with some initially attributing them to the Liao Dynasty (same period but the North of China). These jars are thought to have originated from Yunnan province in the South West of China.
