A pair of late Regency painted oak side tables with antique Penrhyn slate tops.
This pair are attributed to William Atkinson, who was a Regency architect best known for his country house designs in the gothic style. He was a pupil of James Wyatt and his commissions include the remodelling of Abbotsford for Sir Walter Scott.
Penrhyn slate quarry was once the largest and most productive in the world. Part of its success was down to its promotion by merchant and architect Samuel Wyatt. The quarry is still partly active today.
The tables date to circa 1830.
