Regency Rosewood Cabinet

  • H: 147 cm (57 7/8")
  • W: 105 cm (41 5/16")
  • D: 45 cm (17 3/4")

Fabulous quality Regency rosewood cabinet.

This cabinet features a very elaborate cresting rail comprised of two fish surrounded by elegant scrolling forms.

The marble top is surmounted by crisply carved dolphins and features a mercury mirror back.

Two panelled doors feature cross-bounded borders and are flanked by decoratively carved pillars. The whole rests on a substantial plinth base.

Exotic woods were favoured in Regency furniture for their boldly striped figuring, as the stunning patina of the rosewood here demonstrates.

Maritime motifs were rich with symbolism in Regency furniture and the fish and dolphins on this piece likely allude to Lord Nelson's maritime victories at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805) and the Battle of the Nile (1798).

This wonderful cabinet retains its original keys.
