Rowland Ward Taxidermy Polar Bear
Huge and wonderful taxidermy polar bear. This piece is attributed to Rowland Ward, circa 1880.
The earliest known location of this bear was a pub in the 1940s. The bear's raised arm originally held an oil lamp, and he was displayed alongside a smaller bear which held a tray.
This taxidermy was later displayed at Trentham Gardens, then eventually went to a private collection in Norfolk.
Rowland Ward Ltd served all the biggest game hunters of the period. Rowland (1847-1912) was a keen naturalist, and as the son of a taxidermist he was an expert on animal structure. He opened a showroom called 'The Jungle' in London's Piccadilly.
This piece comes with all necessary documentation, including a DEFRA certificate.
Fantastic display piece and automatic talking point in any interior.
