Maple & Co 19th Century Satinwood Desk
Supremely elegant late 19th Century satinwood desk, attributed to Maple & Co, London.
This fine quality desk features a shaped top with a leather inset, surrounded by a wide cross-banding of satinwood edged with tulipwood.
The top sits above a central drawer over the kneehole. Flanked on each side by two bow-fronted drawers, which are decorated with cross-banding and embellished with painted flowerheads surrounding inset oval centres. The drawers are fully lined with fine mahogany.
Resting on square tapering cross-banded legs with block joints and very elegant curved stretchers which support small rectangular undertiers.
Maple & Co of Tottenham Court Road were synonymous with furniture of the highest order from the early 19th century until the 20th Century Century, when they merged with Waring & Gillows.
Depth to middle drawer: 58cms.
