Set of six engravings from 1821 in three frames after illustrations by William Alexander (b.1767 - d.1816).

These original illustrations reference some of the Roman Hellenistic busts of Greek gods and philosophers held in the British Museum and are highly detailed and highly accurate, quite literally museum quality. Presented in wonderful bespoke period-sympathetic aged wooden frames with the gilt inlay behind the glass, which adds a wonderful depth.

Bust details are as follows: Sophocles, engraved by William Angus Epicurus, engraved by William Skelton Dionysus, engraved by William Henry Worthington Dionysus, engraved by Edward Scriven Pericles, engraved by Bernard Picart Homer, engraved by William Bromley.
