Set of four yellow French Tolix armchairs. Original colour and material. Circa 1920.
These iconic Tolix chairs represent one of the earliest designs by Xavier Pauchard, a Frenchman who first trained as a zinc roofer.
His roofing experience taught Pauchard that metal could be protected by dipping it in molten zinc- galvanising it.
In 1917, he set up his own factory manufacturing steel household items under the trademark 'Tolix.'
These classic chairs became a firm favourite with the hospitality industry.
This set are unusual for their yellow colour, with beautifully distressed paint, and the fact they have arms.
