Set of French Bistro Glasses and Silver Plated Absinthe Spoons
Fine set of late 19th/early 20th Century French heavy handblown bistro glasses, with matching pierced silver plated Absinthe spoons (each spoon 16.5cm long). These glasses were once used in bars and cafes all over France to serve the illicit green beverage beloved of artists and poets, Absinthe. Reputedly highly addictive, it quickly damaged the brain and many Bohemians succumbed to either madness... or creative brilliance... under its influence. Each spoon held a lump of sugar over which water was pourers to dissolve it and dilute the green spirit, which became milky white rather like 'Pastis'. Pure nostalgia.
