Trio of 'Soumba' nesting side tables, by Mathieu Matégot.
Constructed from perforated sheet metal, then lacquered. Standing on brass feet.
In black, yellow and red paint. Repainting to the yellow and red tables.
Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001) was one of the most renowned French artists of the 1950s.
Previously a woman's clothing designer, he learned metalworking techniques as a prisoner of war in the 1940s and started designing furniture upon his release.
Matégot pioneered many of the characteristics we now recognise as defining Mid-Century design. This included metal-mounted rattan, steel tubing and the perforated metal seen in these tables.
This trio of tables represent an opportunity to own an iconic vintage design, from one of the most prolific French designer's in history.
