Set of Twelve Danish Neoclassical Dining Chairs

  • H: 88 cm (34 5/8")
  • W: 51 cm (20 1/16")
  • D: 46 cm (18 1/8")

Stylish set of twelve Danish Neoclassical mahogany dining chairs.

Each with finely inlaid brass lines and comprises four armchairs with super stylish arm support together with eight single chairs. All the timber with a lovely warm patina and good original colour.

The whole set was conceived in the Neoclassical manner of Christian Hansen, circa 1820. Also of note is the direct relation between this restrained Neo-classical ‘Golden Age’ style of chair and the inspiration that it clearly gave to two iconic 1930s chair designs by Jacob Kjaer.

His ‘Paris’ chairs feature a near-identical back profile, and the other design has the same overall concept with similarly square tapering legs.

Both modes are on display in the iconic ‘The Danish Chair’ exhibition at the Design Museum in Copenhagen.
