William Henry Harvey was one of the 19th Century leading phycologists and botanists who specialised in algae. Born in Summerville, Ireland, Harvey was educated at Trinity College, Dublin where he become a prominent authority on European, South African, and American algae and heralded the "father of Australian Phycology’.
