19th Century Soumac rug from the Caucasus have a flat-woven pile that is thick, strong and exceptionally durable.
Early Soumac rugs are very finely woven and feature richly detailed motifs. One of the reasons Soumacs are highly appreciated is due to their primitive, tribal character and wonderful, naturally dyed colours.
A stylish Caucasian Soumac flat weave rug, dating circa 1890 with expressive character with ancient symbols and a harmonious array of vegetable-dyed colours which have aged gracefully. Another attractive feature of this charming rug is the design on several borders that are skilfully woven in different colours.
This antique Caucasian Soumac is in very good to excellent condition, still retaining all of its artistic borders on all sides.
A versatile example that adds a timeless character to the space.
