French 20th Century Art Nouveau Marble Bust

A classic example of a 19th Century marble bust depicting a young maiden.  

This bust exhibits wonderful attention to detail, including intricate creases to the hair, shoulders, and other signs of age on the face. 

The market for marble figures peaked in the 19th Century, holding both educational and commercial importance. 

It was a time of great interest in classical antiquity, as the Elgin Marbles arrived in 1816 and went on display in the British Museum.
