Collection of Five French Iron Cellar Candlesticks
Collection of five charming iron 'rat de cave' cellar candlesticks.
Rat de cave, or cellar rat, candlesticks were used to light French Burgandy wine cellars in the 18th and 19th Centuries. The rat tail-like handles are designed to be hung on the rim of a wine barrel.
These rustic examples date to the early 20th Century. These functional yet decorative pieces are comprised of a wrought iron corkscrew spiral, on a raised.
Each candlestick has a spiraling lifter to control the height of the candle with a lovely aged patina.
A unique and primitive decorative collection.
