French Absinthe Glass and Spoon
French absinthe glass and spoon.
Known as 'the green fairy,' this notorious, green anise-flavoured spirit is very much associated with the hedonism of La Belle Èpoque in Paris.
However absinthe has had a chequered history and was banned in France in 1915- a ban which would last almost 100 years.
This attractive glass comes with an absinthe spoon, which were slotted in order to dissolve a sugar cube in a glass of absinthe in order to sweeten the drink and counteract its bitterness.
Absinthe was served in bars and cafes, but was also consumed by the working and middle classes at home- hence why you will often find full sets of glasses and spoons.
