Pair of 1940 Leather Club Chairs
A pair of quality 20th Century leather club chairs with moustache backs.
Born in 1929, the often called 'Club Armchair' was inspired by the Art Deco movement and evolved from England and France. Furniture designers seized the opportunity to provide their clients with luxury and comfort in line with new tastes.
The name comes from the rise of gentleman's clubs in England in the 19th Century, where men would go to escape their household and have a drink and perhaps a cigar.
The club chair has evolved over the decades, with 20th Century manufacturers preferring an 'overstuffed' leather club chair. This is not a bad thing in furniture terms, it simply means very well padded.
The pair are in good condition and have had their seats resprung in the workshop. Studding along seams.
