Pair of Chinoiserie Pagoda Chairs
Pair of 1930s Chinoiserie pagoda back chairs.
These chairs are beautiful and elegant, with gently splayed legs and turning to the top of the front legs.
Upholstered in a lovely Soane seaweed lace stone linen, with antiqued studs.
The 1920s and 30s saw a brief revival of Chinoiserie in interior design, with wealthy households decorating whole rooms in this style.
Western design has a long history of infatuation with Chinoiserie, and the broad up-curving eaves of Chinese pagodas became a popular part of its adaptation in these years.
On these chairs, the pagoda tops are bordered in an attractive contrasting paint.
