18th Century Walnut Bookcase
18th Century solid walnut gothic style bookcase. A stunning example of French craftsmanship.
From a Lyon Doctors Hôtel Particulier.
The Gothic style emerged in the 12th Century and was revived in Europe during the 18th Century.
It was common in France for Gothic style pieces to use walnut and the glazed finish on this piece gives it a fantastic deep patina.
Three doors glazed with the original antique glass enclose carved bullnose shelving.
The display shelving sits upon the elegant enfilade base which has three cupboards and six drawers.
The piece is surmounted by a fantastic open display section with the arched frameworks that typify the Gothic style and feature ebonised details.
Reeded columns divide the glazing on the doors.
A striking, useful and statement piece.
