Late 19th Century Copper Stilton Coaster
Wonderful late 19th Century stilton cheese coaster.
Cheese was eaten daily in the wealthy households of the 19th Centuries. It was considered a vital part of a healthy diet.
These coasters or cradles were therefore essential to a respectable household. They would hold half a round of cheese alongside other accompaniments which would have been placed on a large dining table.
This classic country house piece has a lovely scale and unusual form.
It has been made from a copper plate which is supported by a wooden frame.
Featuring two handles, one on each side.
This coaster is rich in colour and patina.
An interesting piece that will elevate any dinner party setting.
