Beautiful 19th Century French cast iron book press.
This highly decorative iron “Presse a Relier” features foliate and beaded decor, the top is connected to the manual screw controlled by a wide top handle also beautifully decorated. The top plate features red painted banding.
It is black with a rich bronze patinated painted finish. This wonderful accessory would look perfect in a study, library or den!
Originally this device was used to press book sheets together before binding. It is in full working order.
