A striking set of nine 20th Century self-portraits by David Hill.
David Hill was an American artist who moved to Paris just after World War II and in 1957 bought a house together with the Canadian artist Joseph Plaskett and was his companion until David's death in 1976. Apparently, parties at their home were legendary.
Each year on his birthday David would start a new self-portrait and date them also with his age in Roman numerals. This is a collection of nine of them. There is a catalog included that was published in 1986 by Joseph Plaskett that includes a number of the paintings that are for sale.
