An early 19th Century Regency Period toleware bucket.
This charming bucket has a beautiful shape to it, with a strapwork handle.
Toleware involved dipping tinplate sheets of iron or steel in molten tin or pewter, working it into a variety of domestic and decorative items, before japanning them.
Principle centres for the production of toleware in Britain were Pontypool and Usk. The trade began in the first half of the 18th Century and had disappeared by the end of the 19th century.
