Pair of 20th Century French Leather Club Chairs
Lovely pair of French leather armchairs dating from the 1930s.
Club chairs were immersed in interior décor both in France and England since their conception in the early 20th Century.
In both countries, they were firm fixtures in gentleman's clubs but were eventually used in a more widespread sense by both males and females.
England and France influenced each other's models, with the French chairs becoming less rounded and more well proportioned over decades.
These chairs are very deep-seated and were originally called the 'fauteuil comfortable,' or comfortable armchair.
Original upholstered seat cushions.
