The residents of Mora were among those who fled to Stockholm during extreme droughts in the 18th Century. In the city, they learned new skills and trades including clock-making.
Upon their return to a drought-free Mora, a local industry emerged crafting these clocks. Different families would be responsible for one stage of the process - the mechanism, the woodwork, or the painting for example.
