Swedish Longcase Clock

  • H: 208 cm (81 7/8")
  • W: 65 cm (25 9/16")
  • D: 22 cm (8 11/16")

18th Century Swedish Mora clock in its original dry scraped paint, with original dial pendulum weights.

No Swedish inspired interior is complete without the quiet grandeur of the Swedish Mora clock.

Not only are these clocks incredibly beautiful, with their distinctive curvaceous shape, but they also have a charming history.

In the early 18th Century, the town of Mora suffered a severe drought and its people fled to Stockholm in their droves. In the city, they learnt new skills and trades including clock-making.

Upon their return to a drought-free Mora, a local industry emerged crafting these clocks. Families would be responsible for one stage of the process- the mechanism, the woodwork, or the painting for example- and would put their work together to create this finished product.

A Swedish Mora clock is a lovely piece to have in any home, due to its unobtrusive yet powerful presence.
