Superb 19th Century Khorassan carpet.
The city of Khorassan in north east Persia has an extremely venerable weaving tradition going back to the 5th century. Its unique carpets are distinguished by their ideal combination of elegance, originality and distinctive styles.
The 19th Century saw the creation of superb quality room-size Khorassan carpets tailored for western and European furnishing tastes. The charming terracotta field of this handsome Khorassan carpet is surrounded with a simple central medallion-and-four spandrels design which highlights the open space of the ground and its rich abrash – colour variation, framed by an ivory border of wide proportion.
This 19th Century Khorassan carpet is in well preserved condition considering its age, with has a slight age related patina in a few places.
The carpet still retains all of its charming inner borders and fringes on each side.
